Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (July 3, 2018) – Seth Bergman highlighted the Fred Brownfield Classic with a runner-up result last Friday at Grays Harbor Raceway.

Bergman won a heat race from the pole position during the opening night of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com doubleheader. That earned a spot into the feature redraw. Bergman pulled the No. 4 during the random redraw to start the A Main on the outside of the second row.

“I felt at one point in the race I had an opportunity (to win) if the caution hadn’t come out,” he said. “The caution came out and that opportunity went away. I had slid Henry (Van Dam) for second as well as a lapped car right before the caution came out. They reverted to the previous lap so Henry and the lapped car were back in front of me and it gave (eventual winner) Jason (Solwold) clean air in front of me.”

Bergman’s second-place outing was his 10th top five of the ASCS National Tour season and it locked him into Saturday’s feature redraw.

“I feel like we did what we needed to do,” he said. “That put us in the top four locked in, which is always a goal on a two-day show. It makes the second night so much smoother.”

Unfortunately, the second night was much shorter. Bergman started the A Main third and was running in that position during the first portion of the race before a mechanical problem sent him into the infield with a DNF. He was credited with a 23rd-place result.

“We hurt an engine,” he said. “It’s one of those things that you have to overcome. You can dwell on it and think coulda, shoulda, woulda, but that’s not reality.”

Bergman enters a doubleheader this Friday and Saturday at Gallatin Raceway in Belgrade, Mont, for the Grizzly Nationals only 11 points out of the lead in the ASCS National Tour championship standings.

“We’ll have the same mindset that I’ve been in, go contend for wins, try to keep our equipment together and avoid DNFs,” he said. “We’ll put our best foot forward and hopefully it’s enough to contend for wins.”
