Inside Line Promotions – SOMERTON, Ariz. (Nov. 19, 2014) – Seth Bergman finished his career-best season last weekend with a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader at Cocopah Speedway.

“We didn’t end the way we wanted, but we had a good season,” he said. “It would have been nice to end the year with a couple of good results, but we seemed to struggle with finding the right balance all weekend.”

Bergman kicked off the Cocopah Cup Challenge on Friday by advancing from third to second place during his heat race. That locked him into the main event, which he started on the inside of the seventh row.

“We might have driven into the top 10 at one point, but it was a battle to get around that slick track,” he said. “There were two lanes, but the predominant one was on the bottom. The track was pretty slick so if you missed your marks it was easy to lose positions.”

Bergman competed just outside the top 10 for most of the race before ending with a 14th-place result.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at the 3/8-mile track, where Bergman maneuvered from sixth to fourth place in his heat race.

“I really needed to pick up one more position to get myself into the feature,” he said. “We were all over third place for a while, but couldn’t find a way to make the pass.”

That relegated him to a B Main, which he won to earn a transfer into the main event. Bergman started the 30-lap feature on the outside of the ninth row.

“When you start that far back you don’t have much time to mess around,” he said. “The leader will find you quickly so you have to move forward from the drop of the green flag. Our car just wasn’t quite there in dirty air.”

Bergman finished with a 19th-place result.

He ended the season ranked a career-best sixth in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings. It marked his fourth straight season with a top-10 finish in the points standings.
